- ⚠️ A conflict on the site itself
- On 12 October 2026 the homepage’s message and the CV identify Dr Dirk Rotenberg; the CV states arrival on 1 July 2026. The same homepage’s address record still names Hans-Christian von Reibnitz. This is a documented internal source conflict, not evidence of two current heads of mission.
Two routes: VFS for Schengen, the visa section directly for national visas
Schengen submissions use VFS. The national page offers the Consular Services Portal for listed categories and a separate paper-appointment route at the mission’s visa section. Follow the chosen category’s instructions and preliminary-check notification; a portal upload does not approve the visa or establish an appointment.
Competence is defined by habitual residence: the embassy processes applications from Kuwaiti nationals and those habitually resident in Kuwait, and if it emerges that your habitual residence is outside Kuwait your application will not be processed here — with the exception of residents of Yemen on the national visa route.
How to apply, step by step
- Establish category and habitual residence For applicants needing a visa, short visits generally use Schengen/VFS and the 90-in 180-day limit; long-term study, employment or permitted family reunion use the national route. Kuwait habitual residence or the published Yemen national-route exception must fit your case; duration alone does not authorise employment.
- Follow the confirmed filing address The national visa section is Symphony Tower 2, Block 2, 7th floor, Salmiya. Schengen applicants follow the VFS appointment address. Al Hamra Tower is the general embassy address, not proof that your application is received there.
- Use the published national category route The national page offers online filing for specified categories and paper appointments separately. Upload required documents for the preliminary check and follow its next-step instructions; do not assume every visa category uses the portal or that preliminary completeness means approval.
- Separate interview language from document language The national page asks for an interpreter if you speak none of Arabic, English, Hindi. It separately requires documents in German or English, with an official translation when issued in another language. Interview language does not remove document or category-specific language conditions.
- Upload requested portal files, avoid unsolicited email The mission says unsolicited emailed documents are not stored or added later; this does not prohibit required portal uploads before the appointment. Follow category checklists and bring requested originals/copies; the linked national page has specific translation and authentication conditions.
- Use the published enquiry window The current homepage gives the visa line Sunday–Thursday 08:00–11:00 and the general telephone 08:00–13:00. Use the official contact form for written enquiries; no actual response time was tested.
- If you hold a Kuwaiti diplomatic or special passport: check firstHolders of the Kuwaiti diplomatic (red) and special (green) passports may travel to Germany without a prior visa if the passport is biometric with an electronic chip and the stay does not exceed ninety days per half-year.
Two changes that affect many readers — both announced on the embassy's page:
For new applications from 1 June 2026, residents/habitual residents of Syria use Amman, Beirut or Erbil according to category. The Kuwait notice preserves specified appointments assigned/booked by 31 May 2026 at formerly competent missions; a registration without a personal date is not the same thing. Pending registrations/bookings made after that date must re-register by the proper category and cannot be transferred. At least six months abroad with a valid local permit means the residence-country mission; registration is not visa approval.
Family reunification under section 36a with subsidiary-protection holders is suspended through the end of 23 July 2027; sections 22 and 23 remain unaffected. An old page or registration does not establish present acceptance.
The remonstration procedure has been abolished — this changes what you do after a refusal
Remonstration against visa refusal was abolished worldwide from 1 July 2025. A new application and judicial review remain possible; a fresh application does not reopen a court deadline. Read the refusal’s remedies notice promptly: sections 74/58 VwGO usually mean a month with correct notice; absent or incorrect notice generally allows a year, subject to statutory exceptions. This page does not calculate your individual deadline.
